August 9th, 2011 ATLANTA GEORGIA…..Beta Psi Alumni are gearing up for the Fall for the continuation of the undergraduate mentoring circles. Alumni recently gathered at the home of Brother Doug Mullins to prepare plans for the Fall.  These mentoring circles were kicked of with an undergraduate retreat earlier this year on February 11-12 at Callaway Gardens.  The basis of the mentoring circles is fellow Beta Psi Alumnus Bill George’s book True North.  So far the circles have conducted three sessions that covered:

  • The Influence of Your Life Story
  • Transformation from “I” to “We”
  • Self Awareness

This fall the circles will tackle:

  • Values, Principles, and Ethical Boundaries
  • Motivation (Extrinsic vs. Intrinsic)
  • Integrating Your Life
  • With a final subject of “The Fulfillment of Leadership” which will take place gain with an all chapter retreat

The summer prep session for the Alumni reviewed best practices to date, future sessions content, and preparation for curriculum for 2012.  The engagement by the undergraduates has been terrific. Not to mention that many of the Alumni involved have responded that they are getting way more out of this than the mentees.  The Alums are surely getting good at text messaging their mentees!

Many thanks to the Mentors and Facilitators involved in this Beta Psi Foundation initiative:

  • David Touwsma
  • Jim Hamilton
  • Skip Beebe

Most of all thanks to Brother Bill George.  His support and engagement in this initiative have made it a great success. Programs like this truly make a difference with the Beta Psi Undergraduates.  We are creating leaders on the Georgia Tech Campus in the short term and successful Georgia Teach Sigma Chi Alumnae in the future!  Thanks to each of you for your continued support to the Beta Psi Foundation that allows these programs to exist.
